With the 28mm Napoleonic naval game behind me it’s time for a new project. I’ve been inspired by Arteis and have been looking for opposition for the naval parties I now have. I’ve also always been fascinated by the Maori.
I’ve ordered just over 100 miniatures from Empress and Eureka, but before painting them, I want to get some NZ terrain going.
This means ferns, flax and the iconic cabbage tree. Here are some inspiration pics:
I’ve bought some fake shrubbery to use. Probably too big, but we’ll see. I’m also going to try laser cut paper and see how that goes.
Update: I think I’ve figured out how to do the flax, toi toi and part of the cabbage trees. I found this article on modeling toi toi for s scale railroad. I’ve created a file in illustrator to cut these using the laser. Some kinks to iron out of the process, but I’m pretty happy with the test result.
Great site, Adam! Just wondering how you go about getting your flax leaves laser cut? Do you have a laser cutter, or are there places you can send the file to in order to get them cut? Cheers, Roly
Thanks Roly. Membership at http://www.techshop.ws/. Kind of like a gym membership but instead of stationary bikes and elliptical’s, they have laser cutters and 3D printers. Still experimenting to get the sizes and colors right but will post the files as I refine them.
Roly, I do have a Glowforge ordered, which has been delayed almost a year. It should come in December. I’ll send you some sheets when it comes.
